Another Day, Another Dollar

A reflection on work, worth, and creating prosperity that gives the life you already value more room to grow.

“Do what you love, the money will follow.”
– Marsha Sinetar

Dear Reader,

We all come across people who are genuinely happy. For me, there’s a man I see around my community almost every day. He does maintenance work, often juggling more than one job, and he is, without fail, in a good mood. Smiling, saying hello to everyone, genuinely enjoying his day. We got to talking once, and he told me he works nearly every day to provide for his family. “Another day, another dollar, my friend,” he said with a grin.

Not long after, at a training I attend, I noticed the same thing in the instructor. One of the warmest, most patient people in the room. He mentioned he works there full time, coaches high school sports, and does private lessons on the side, doing everything he can to provide for his family and his young daughter.

Two different men. Same quiet spirit. And those interactions got me thinking.

Because they already have the part most people spend their whole lives chasing. They love their families. They bring genuine warmth wherever they go. They’re fully themselves, grateful, present, and enjoying their day.

What they’re working so hard for is simply the means to provide at the level they want. And here’s what I’ve come to believe, after years of sitting with people across the entire spectrum of wealth: more money doesn’t necessarily come from simply working harder. Most of them already work plenty hard. It often comes from a deeper alignment between what you’re good at, what you believe is possible for you, and your willingness to recognize and act on opportunities when they appear.

“Do what you love, the money will follow” gets dismissed as wishful thinking. And when people treat it as just loving your work and waiting, then yes, it’s passive. But that’s not what it means. Money can follow when you’re genuinely aligned with what you’re doing and when you stop quietly standing in its way.

Because most of us do, without realizing it. We carry a quiet belief that real wealth is for some other kind of person, not us. We assume what we earn right now is simply what we’re worth. We equate the hours we put in with the money we’re allowed to receive, as if the two must always rise together. And we keep our heads down, working, walking right past the opportunities sitting in front of us the whole time.

But here is where it gets good. When you do what you’re genuinely suited for. When you believe you’re worthy of the abundance now, not once you’ve earned it. When you stay open to the opportunities that appear, and have the courage to act on them. That’s aligned action. And in my experience, it’s often what creates the conditions for prosperity to find you in ways you could not have planned. I’ve watched people build real wealth doing things no one around them understood, simply because they loved it, they were fully themselves doing it, and they let it flow.

And wealth that comes that way doesn’t change who you are. It amplifies it. It takes the good that’s already there – the love, the devotion, the presence – and gives it more room to be expressed.

That’s what I want for the good people quietly working so hard for the people they love. Not just to get by through sheer effort, but to let the thing they love provide fully for them, so the life they’re working for has the space to actually be lived.

My question for you this week:

If you could provide more, for yourself, for the people you love, what would it make possible?

Sit with that.
